MetaMax #MaxInterax Agency Day 2011

What do you get when you combine 10 teams made up of the best agency staff with social, mobile, location based service (LBS) and iPads?

MaxInterax Agency Day 2011!

Taking a little bit of the Apprentice, a little bit of the Amazing Race, 10 teams hit the streets of NYC on a 5-task challenge to some of the most interesting and interactive spots in New York City. Team-collaboration, social experience design and LBS and multi-media information capture made it more than just a scavenger hunt or a team building exercise. It became a custom street game that ended with an agency-wide celebration. Stormy weather couldn’t dampen the teams’ drive to win.

Each team created their own name, set up a twitter & FourSquare accounts and used the hashtag #MaxInterax and their #TeamName hashtag to group the day’s activity together.

Each team was tracked throughout the day via individual team twitter lists, and the event planning team spent all day monitoring and adding up the points each team was getting. This was the most fun! All the teams were super active on Twitter, posting photos and checking into specified venues sharing their experiences along the way.

The final challenge

At the end of the day, each team had 1 hour to prepare a presentation on how they conquered all 5 tasks, and then each gave a 5 minute pitch using iPads to showcase it all.

We were blown away by some of the creative ideas that came from each team presentation such as:

  • live blogging their day capturing posts, photos and videos with additional social integration on team Facebook pages
  • custom iPad app creations of their day in TurboCollage, Pic Collage and ComicBook
  • videos edited in iMovie & tripline.net
  • interactive Keynote presentations

The Winners

The entire agency won through amazing team collaboration and creative thinking. But there were some standouts:

  • Most social points: #TheSlicks
  • Best Unified Tee-shirt design: #BlueTAGstic
  • Best team spirit/costume: #TheZoMMbies
  • Most interactive iPad presentation: #EUBOO/#TheSlicks
  • Best overall presentation on iPad: #OrangeBanana
  • Overall point accumulation winner: #TheSlicks

Laurel Rossi, MetaMax’s co-managing director, said: “We work pretty hard at MetaMax and we like to play just as hard. We wanted to give our staff a fun and memorable day by creating an experience that was enriching and experiential long after the event was over. The event was designed with team building at the core utilizing digital-only communications and social media, and a challenge that tapped into the natural competitiveness of this exceptional group.  The day was as challenging as our staff is dynamic. It was one of the most rewarding professional activities I've ever been a part of.  Everyone had a blast.”
